"Peter James joins Linley on the show, an up and coming pianist with a brand new Trio album who studied at the Royal Academy in the nineties and has written a bunch of new tunes in a very contemporary style. They discuss the new direction that piano trios are going in, their open style, the evolution of the music and where Peter goes from here"

Peter James Trio 3rd March 7.30 -10pm at the 606 Club
**CD LAUNCH** PETE JAMES After graduating from the Royal Academy in the 90’s Pete chose a lower profile path then some of his contemporaries, using his fluent and creative piano playing for the support of others rather than to promote his own work. However, with the release of his debut trio CD, “Visions and Vistas”, he has established himself as a leader of impressive depth and maturity. With his strongly melodic and inventive compositions as well as arrangements of classic jazz standards the music captures a vibrant chemistry between the musicians of the trio. Jeremy Brown on double-bass and Tom Hooper on drums, both friends from Pete’s Academy days, help create a musical landscape which is at once unique and at the same time touching on the great traditions of the acoustic piano trio. All highly experienced and respected musicians, between them they include work with the likes of Brad Mehldau, Julian Joseph, Grace Jones and John Dankworth, the trio work together to produce music that is passionate, lyrical and always engaging. This is excellent music from a musician just emerging as a musical force in his own right. Recommended. (Steve Rubie, 606 Club)
“…assured technique, conception and well-crafted and thoughtful compositions. As an improviser James is lucid, imaginative and truly communicates.” Julian Joseph, pianist/composer/broadcaster
