After Siesta is indeed best attempted after a siesta! Musically, it has some Latin American influences combined with funkier elements. The title has slight reminiscences of Chick Corea’s La Fiesta.

The Visions and Vistas album begins with Del Corazón on solo piano. The title translates as ‘from the heart’ and sets the agenda in terms of our intent for the music.

Embrace, the second track from Visions and Vistas, is a relatively simple form containing melodic exchanges between the treble and bass. The intention is to create a modal space in which we can continue the musical dialogue.

I’ve been intrigued by the variety of suggestions as to regional meanings of ‘fettling’! It’s a cheerful nod toward my roots in the north of England.

The title for the ballad Look Up! (at the stars) originated from a time when I lived abroad.

Mistral paints a musical picture of the cold north-westerly wind that travels down the Rhône valley in France in to the Mediterranean. A form runs throughout the piece but is sometimes approached quite tangentially.

My Heart Longs for a Far Away Country is a musical journey. It’s about being in one place, longing to be in another, and the sometimes-perilous journey to get from A to B.

Snow on Snow is intended, not as a nostalgic tribute to the days before global warming when the weather was more predictable and we were guaranteed snow at Christmas!

Thanksgiving is just that – and was a surprise late entry for inclusion on the album. We tried it in the studio and it seemed to capture just the right township-hoedown-rollicking vibe!
